Praia das Maçãs (Apples beach) owes its name to a river that used to run through orchards. The fruit would fall into this river, which flowed down to the beach, delivering several apples (Maçãs) to the ocean and the sandy area.

Besides bathing and sunbathing, it is a great beach to practice water sports, such as surfing and body boarding.
